Whose to Blame for TJ Holmes BET Show Ratings? BET Says Viewers Failed to ‘Show up’

Did T.J. Holmes talk to Jacque Reid before he quit his day job? You may have read that BET announced Monday that it will chop T.J. Holmes’ nightly show to just an hour, once a week. According to BET’s CEO Debra Lee, the show was “designed to be a mix of entertainment and news and commentary. We hoped it would have been a Jon StewartStephen Colbert-type show […].” She later added, “to be honest, the ratings haven’t been great in the past two weeks. Our audience always says they want this kind of programming, but they don’t show up.”

Ms. Lee… Let’s be real. T. J. Holmes is a good man and a great journalist but the Colbert/Stewart engine is powered by good, witty writing and HUMOR! It’s not to say that this feat cannot be accomplished by BET… but it is missing something very important… a comedian. So who is to blame? BET? Did they bring the right people to the table to make this project work? The viewers? Did they flake? Looks like we slept on “Don’t Sleep.”
